Frederic Woodman Root

Frederic Woodman Root (born June 13, 1846 in Boston , † November 8, 1916 in Chicago ) was an American composer and music teacher.

Root had his first lessons from his father, George Frederick Root . He continued his training with BC Blodgett , William Mason , James Flint and Robert Goldbeck , and studied singing in New York with Carlo Bassini and Luigi Vannuccini in Florence. 1869–70 he went on a study trip through Europe. He composed songs, cantatas, an operetta and other works, including numerous for use in singing and piano lessons. Root in particular had an excellent reputation as a singing teacher and published several textbooks for singing lessons.
