Frederick George Abberline

Frederick George Abberline (born January 8, 1843 in Blandford Forum , Dorset , † December 10, 1929 ) was a British inspector of the London Metropolitan Police and a well-known police figure in connection with the murders of Jack the Ripper .

Life

Abberline's career in the police force began in Whitechapel . He was withdrawn to Stepney for an extended period in 1873 , then to Westminster and finally, in 1887, to Scotland Yard , the headquarters of the London Metropolitan Police.

After the murder of Mary Ann Nichols , Abberline was transferred to Whitechapel because of his extensive experience in ripper crimes (forensic: mutilation of corpses). There he was appointed the lead detective of a team of investigators.

He was later involved in the investigation of the Cleveland Street scandal in 1889 and was chief inspector from 1890.

Works on Abberline

Abberline was played by Michael Caine in a TV movie called Jack the Ripper (1988) and by Johnny Depp in From Hell (2001). In the film Wolfman (2010) Hugo Weaving played inspector Francis Abberline, who had previously investigated the Ripper murders. He is also a supporting character in the game Assassin's Creed Syndicate (2015), set in 1868, and the associated "Jack the Ripper" DLC, in which he helps the player to hunt down the ripper. Abberline is played by Falk Hentschel in the TV feature film Jack the Ripper - A woman chases a murderer . He was also mentioned as a supporting character in the anime Black Butler (2008-2009).
