Frederick Baumann

Frederick Baumann (born January 6, 1826 in Angermünde as Friedrich Moritz Rudolph Baumann ; † January 18, 1921 in Chicago ) was an American architect of German origin.

Life

Friedrich Baumann was born the son of the city judge George Heinrich Baumann and his wife Ulrike Kienitz (baptized on January 15th). Baumann attended the city schools in Angermünde and Marienwerder and in 1840 went to the trade school in Berlin. He studied here for a few years before moving to Bromberg .

He became known as the architect "Frederick Baumann" in Chicago . Here in 1874 he and Edward Baumann built the city's first high-rise, the 5-story Washington Block . He was involved in the construction of the Soldiers & Sailers monument in Indianapolis .
