The Frederick Rocks ( Rocas Campastri in Argentina ) are a group of reef rocks in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . They are located in Barclay Bay on the north coast of Livingston Island .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1959 after the American brig Frederick , which belonged to the sealer fleet from Stonnington , Connecticut , which operated in the waters around the South Shetland Islands between 1821 and 1822. The name giver of the Argentine name is the radio operator Omar Campastri, who died on September 15, 1976 when a Lockheed P-2 Neptune crashed on Mount Friesland with ten other crew members.
