Frederick Tully

Frederick Vincent Tully (born May 13, 1931 in Albany (New York) , † May 5, 2005 in Sedona , Arizona ), who initially appeared under the name Fred Vincent , was an American actor. In Germany he became known through the Karl May film Winnetou and Shatterhand in the Valley of the Dead , in which he played the young lieutenant Cummings under the pseudonym Clarke Reynolds .

life and career

Frederick Tully, born in Albany in 1931 to a dentist, had an older and a younger sister. He served in the Marines and later took part in the Korean War, where he suffered severe frostbite on his feet. After the war he worked for the radio in Washington, DC . He turned down an offered university scholarship and so he went to New York to become an actor. He received his training a. a. at the Actors Studio with Lee Strasberg . Tully later also appeared as a television announcer .

In the 1960s he starred in numerous television series, including 1964 in an episode of the crime series Perry Mason . Towards the end of the decade he made advertising in Europe, stayed a. a. in Italy and Germany . In Munich Tully met his future wife, the actress Catana Cayetano . Not least because of his good looks, he was given a leading role in the Karl May film adaptation of Winnetou and Shatterhand in the Valley of the Dead in 1968 . For producer Artur Brauner , "Fred Vincent" or "Frederick Tully" didn't sound American enough and so the actor was presented as "Clarke Reynolds" in the opening credits . Brauner is said to have come up with the name himself. In 1969/70 he lived with his wife in Rome , where he took part in a commercial. Tully returned to the United States in the early 1970s. There he worked - now under his real name - in other television series and films, for example. B. in an episode of Dallas .

Frederick Tully died of prostate cancer in 2005 .

From his marriage to Catana Cayetano, which lasted until his death, a son named Patrick was born.

Others

Due to the pseudonym "Clarke Reynolds" under which he appeared in Winnetou and Shatterhand in the Valley of the Dead , Tully was mistakenly associated with a screenwriter of the same name. This Clarke Reynolds was born in 1917 and had a. a. wrote the script for the western They Call Me Shalako (1968). He passed away in 1994.
