Frederik Christian Lund (born February 14, 1826 in Copenhagen ; † October 31, 1901 there ) was a Danish genre and portrait painter.
Life
Frederik Christian Lund became a student at the Model School of the Royal Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen in 1845 . In 1848 he took part in the First Schleswig War as a volunteer and witnessed the Battle of Bau there in 1848 and the Battle of Fredericia the following year. One of his first more significant pictures was an episode from the Battle of Fredericia in 1852, which earned him a first major prize. Lund concentrated primarily on historical motifs, with genre motifs and portraits being added over time. In the years 1859 and 1862 he traveled to Italy with the help of a travel grant for study purposes . In 1864 he published several color lithographs of Danish folk costumes from the first half of the 19th century. For the world exhibition in Paris in 1878 he painted a larger watercolor depicting a move by Danish farmers. His main work in recent years are the ceiling paintings executed there after the rebuilding of the Viborg cathedral , after which he became a knight of the Dannebrog Order in 1876 . In 1877 he became a member of the Art Academy in Copenhagen. In 1896 he was appointed professor there.
