Frediano von Lucca (* around 520 in Ireland , † March 18, 588 in Lucca , Italy ), German also Frigidian von Lucca , is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church

Life

According to legend, Frediano was the son of the Irish King Ulaid . He received a Christian education and made a pilgrimage to Rome around 540 . After his return home, he founded a monastery before he went back to Italy, where he developed the sacrament of holy orders received. In 560 he was appointed Bishop of Lucca . During his tenure, he is said to have worked numerous miracles . His prayers saved the city from flooding by the Serchio .

He died on March 18, 588.

The existence of St. Frediano is considered certain thanks to the written traditions of Pope St. Gregory the Great . In Lucca, Tuscany , the church Chiesa di San Frediano was consecrated to him, under the high altar is his grave. Richard von Wessex and St. Zita were also buried in this church .
