Free DV

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Avid Free DV was a free version of Avid's professional video editing software for Mac OS X and Windows XP .

The program could be downloaded for free from the Avid FreeDV website. It was discontinued on September 4, 2007, and it is no longer possible to register the program required for installation. The installation file can be found on the Internet using search engines (important for those who have lost their copy of the installation file but still have the registration data).

Video can only be loaded and played out via the FireWire interface, and a maximum of two video and two audio tracks are available for editing.

The range of effects is relatively extensive, but there is no 3D warp, for example, and only a small part of the effects available in the professional versions are present. In addition to playing on a DV tape, the video can also be exported as QuickTime . All other compatibilities are blocked, although the interface is almost identical to the programs Xpress DV and Xpress Pro from Avid, which are designed for professional use . Furthermore, the material created in Avid Free DV cannot be used in the full version, so that the “free version” remains useless in this case.

However, the program is well suited for editing amateur films (holiday or wedding videos) on DV and to get to know the surface of the entire AVID family free of charge.
