Freedom Press is the oldest operating anarchist publisher in the English-speaking world and the largest anarchist publisher in the United Kingdom .

In addition to numerous books and brochures, Freedom Press has been producing the bi-weekly magazine Freedom since 1886 , the only regular anarchist newspaper in Great Britain that is available in the whole country. (Only online since 2014.)

In 1886 a group of friends, including Charlotte Wilson and Peter Kropotkin, founded a publisher on Freedom, which appeared a little longer . The history of the publisher is closely linked to Vernon Richards , who was a defining figure in the publishing house between the 1930s and the 1990s.

Freedom Press writers include Clifford Harper , Dennis Gould , Nicolas Walter , Ward , Murray Bookchin , Gaston Leval , William Blake . At times it was published by The Raven magazine , of which 43 issues had appeared up to 2003.

The publishing house and bookstore are in Whitechapel in the East End of London . In March 1993, the neo-Nazi group Combat 18 carried out an arson attack on the building, the consequences of which are still partially visible. Since then, metal blinds have been installed in front of the windows and doors on the first floor to protect the building from further attacks.

In addition to the publishing offices and bookstore, there is also an archive, a hacklab and the newspaper office in the building. The actual printing of the publications has been done by an independent collective at a different address since the 1980s . The library of Freedom Press books is located in the Bishopsgate Library .
