from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Freelens e. V. (own spelling: FREELENS , former spelling: FreeLens ) is a professional association for photojournalists and photographers . It was founded in 1995 and, according to its own statements, is the largest photography organization in Germany with over 2,400 members . The seat is in Hamburg .

Tasks and achievements

According to its statutes, the purpose of the association is: “To represent the economic and social interests of photojournalists and photographers in Germany. This purpose of the association also includes the judicial assertion of legal claims of the members on behalf of the association as well as the establishment and negotiation of joint remuneration regulations, in particular in arbitration proceedings according to §§ 36, 36a of the Copyright Act. "

Freelens represents the interests of its members in committees such as the administrative board of the collecting society Bild-Kunst , the Stiftung Kulturwerk and the Stiftung Sozialwerk as well as the Mittelstandsgemeinschaft Foto-Marketing (MFM).

With trials before the Federal Court of Justice and, for example, the Berlin Chamber of Commerce, Freelens brought about legal clarifications for photographers and also took legal action against so-called buy-out contracts .

The association provides members with a template for general terms and conditions, advises them on contracts, insurance and fees and organizes workshops.

The association is also a co-signatory of the joint declaration of the working group on data retention against the draft law on data retention .

Freelens exhibits documentary and artistic photographs in his own gallery in Hamburg.

The association maintains the “Freelens Pool”, through which members can (for a fee) market their photos in the online portals Fotofinder and i-picturemaxx (formerly APIS).

Freelens offers its members legal advice and, in selected cases, legal protection (no “legal protection insurance”) as well as a national and an international press card .

The Freelens Magazine was discontinued in 2014, but some of it can be read in an online archive.

structure

The non-profit subsidiary Freelens Foundation supports photographers in need, photographic projects, exhibitions, symposia and workshops.

With Freelens Media , the association has a wholly-owned subsidiary that acts as a service and publishing company.

Lutz Fischmann is the managing director of all three organizations .
