Freespeed Basel

Freespeed Basel is Basel's first of two ultimate frisbee clubs in the city. Since it was founded in 1996, national and international successes have been celebrated. In 2019, the club comprises two men's teams as well as the first Swiss women's team, a mixed team, Freespeed Experience, the senior team and the Freespeedies, the junior department, which is divided into U10, U14, U17 and U20.

In 1997 the club received the Spirit of the Game Award at the Swiss Championships . Freespeed Basel has been a member of the Swiss League (now the Swiss Ultimate Association ) since 1998 and of the National League A.

Freespeed One is the competitive men's team from Freespeed. The club has been among the top 10 in Europe since 2009. Since the World Ultimate Club Championships 2018 in Cincinnati , Ohio (USA), they have been ranked number 11 in the world. With three Champions League medals, five Swiss championship titles and tournament victories at major international tournaments, Freespeed one has been one of the most successful teams in Europe since 2010.

The greatest successes so far are 5th place at the Paganello Beach Tournament in Rimini 2006, 3rd place at Wonderful Copenhagen Ultimate 2006, the Spirit of the Game Award at Paganello in Rimini 2007, victory in the Beach Ultimate European Championship in Le Pouliguen ( France ) 2008, the third place at the EUCF 2010 in Lloret del Mar , the victories at the Windmill Windup in Amsterdam in 2009 and 2012, the victory at the Tom's Tourney in Bruges in 2012, the Swiss championship title in 2007, '11, '14, '15, '18 and '19 as well as the final qualifications at the European Ultimate Championship Finals (EUCF) 2013 and 2014. In 2015 the Swiss Ultimate Disc Tour (SUDT) 2015, '17 and '18 could be won. The Freespeed Ladies celebrated their first qualification for the Champions League finals in 2018. The second men's team Free2speed was promoted to the National League A.

The club has been training in the former National and FCB Stadium Landhof in upper Kleinbasel since 2007 . The first team has been playing their home games in the same stadium since 2015.
