Samuele Jesi
Samuele Jesi (born September 4, 1786 or 1788 in Correggio (Emilia-Romagna) , † January 17, 1853 in Florence ) was an Italian draftsman , engraver and lithographer .
Life
Jesi studied at the Art Academy in Milan under Giuseppe Longhi . His first major works were The Rejection of Hagar (1821), based on Guercino's picture in the Brera in Milan, and the Madonna with John and St. Stephan (1834), after Fra Bartolommeo in the Cathedral of Lucca .
In 1840, after Raphael , he engraved the portrait of Pope Leo X with the Cardinals Rossi and Giulio de ' Medici in the Palazzo Pitti .
In 1846 he took over the engraving of the fresco painting just discovered in Sant'Onofrio in Florence , which depicts a Last Supper and was attributed by some to Raphael.
He completed a masterful drawing of it in 1849, but died on January 17, 1853 in Florence before completing the engraving.
In the meantime he was still finishing the engraving after the Vierge à la vigne.
