Frei was an Austrian music group that existed from 1997 to 2008. From 1997 to 1999, however, they appeared under the name Die Tiebelstädter or Tommy und seine Tiebelstädter . Her trademark was her appearance with longer black hair and wearing white tuxedos.

history

The beginnings in the late 1990s

In 1995 Hansi Leschanz and Markus Gruber founded their band Die Lustigen 2 and initially performed folk music at smaller events. In 1996 Manfred Zaminer joined and the group was renamed the Lobisser Buam . Zaminer quickly left the trio and Hansi Striessnig, who was also only briefly loved, came back.

In 1996 and 1997 Thomas "Tommy" Leitner, Helmut Scheiber and Klaus Dertschnig from the Glantal Express joined them and the quintet renamed itself Die Tiebelstädter .

New start in the new century

After they did not make it to the final at the Grand Prix of Folk Music in 1999 , they renamed themselves Frei for the new century . So they started fresh into the new century. In 2003, her hit Da began the summer all over again . With this song they won the Austrian preliminary decision for the Grand Prix of Folk Music 2003 and placed 9th at the finals in Rust with this song. At the Grand Prix of Folk Music 2004 they took penultimate place with their hit Nur ein Handvoll Freiheit . The studio album Baila Bionda , released in 2004, was followed by hits such as Baila Bionda , Wir sind frei , Sayonara and Überall du .

In 2008 the band broke up.

Successor group Silberherz

In 2018 the former Frei singer Tommy Leitner recorded the song Da summer began all over again with the two former Nockalm quintet musicians Edmund Wallensteiner and Arnd Herröder . The newly created trio is called Silberherz .
