Freiberg (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The von Freiberg family (different or older spellings of Vriberch , von Freyberg , Freyberger or Freiberger ) were a noble Meißnisch-Saxon family. The family's possessions were mainly located near the mountain town of Freiberg , in the Eastern Ore Mountains .

history

From the early 13th century, the family appeared as the patrician family of the city of Freiberg . It provided several councilors, city elders and canons of the city. Like other, originally middle-class Freiberg families, they too soon acquired property outside the city and passed into the local nobility . Among other things, they sat in the village of Loßnitz near Freiberg and from 1475 to 1600 in Freibergsdorf , southwest of Freiberg, which has been named after the family since 1530, but was previously called Turmhof. The family died out in the 17th century.
