The Freiberger Präzisionsmechanik Holding GmbH (abbreviation FPM) is a paver of measuring instruments , which was founded in 1771 as a workshop. While mining products were initially manufactured, the manufacture of measuring devices began as early as the 18th century.

At the time of the GDR as a state- owned company VEB Freiberger Präzisionsmechanik , nautical sextants have been built since then . After the fall of the Berlin Wall , these “Freiberg sextants” became well known among sports boaters.
