The Free University for Graphic Design & Fine Arts Freiburg (FHF for short) was a private university based in Freiburg im Breisgau , it merged in 2010 with the International Music College Freiburg, a division of the Jazz & Rock Schools Freiburg (JRS) to form the University for Art, Design and Popular Music Freiburg which started teaching in the 2011 winter semester. The sponsor was the Freiburg University of Art, Design and Popular Music.

history

The university was founded in 1986 from an initiative of artists and art sponsors, first as the Freiburg Academy Model eV, then as the Free Art Academy Freiburg, or Free Academy for Fine Arts Freiburg. Teaching began in 1986 with the painting department. In 1988, the range of courses was expanded to include the graphic design department.

The name "college" is misleading. At no point did the school have state recognition of a technical college. The degrees there are also not officially recognized.

courses

Three courses are offered:

  • Graphic design / visual communication: an eight-semester (plus internship semester), BAföG-funded, practical designer training on a scientific basis. The training is divided into three areas: the basic course, the specialist course and the internship.
  • Screen / web design : a six-semester (plus internship semester), BAföG-funded training. In addition to various design courses, the usual graphic computer programs (content overlaps with the graphic design course) as well as subjects such as web programming, video editing and internet technology are taught here.
  • Fine arts : an eight-semester artist training, which u. a. Basics of design in the sense of a "school of vision" contains.

In addition, the Free University of Freiburg offers a three-year morning and evening course, limited to six hours per week, free painting and drawing, as well as a portfolio preparation course with three events per week.

  • Screen design / web design course (6 semesters): € 2,220 per semester (€ 370 per month)
  • Preparation courses: € 600 per semester (4 months) € 600 per semester (monthly € 150) / (6 months) € 900 per semester (monthly € 150)
  • Morning course / evening course free painting (6 semesters): € 840 per semester (monthly € 140)
  • Nude drawing course: monthly € 65, -

Onion fish magazine

The "Onion Fish - Magazine for Design" is published by the Free University of Freiburg and appears nationwide. The magazine was conceived in 2002 as a thesis by the students Jürgen Uhl and Stefan Gebhard and has since been created by FHF students as part of the editorial design subject . As an editorial consultant, the students u. a. the Freiburg author Karin Schickinger aside. The 10th edition of the "Editorial Design" course by Jürgen X. Albrecht was awarded the international red dot award communication design 2011.
