history

In 1999, the active learning & living e. V. founded. The aim was to create alternative educational institutions for Bad Gandersheim and the surrounding area with a special educational profile.

In summer 2001 the Free School Heckenbeck started as a primary school with 14 children, in October 2002 the Kindergarten Pusteblume in the immediate vicinity of the school under the same sponsorship.

In the summer of 2004, the admission for the secondary level (combined Hauptschule and Realschule) was granted.

particularities

Cross-age learning

The Freie Schule Heckenbeck works across all ages, that is, the children learn in the 1st to 10th grade in three groups Primaria (approx. 6 to 9 years), Secondary (approx. 9 to 13 years) and Tertia (approx. 13 to 17 years). The transitions between the groups are fluid. In addition, different functional areas and offers can be used together.

Pedagogical basics

The pedagogical work is primarily based on the experiences of Maria Montessori and the couple Rebeca Wild and Mauricio Wild as well as on other reform pedagogical approaches .

Self-determined learning

A special feature of the Free School Heckenbeck is the possibility for children from 3 to 17 years of age to learn actively and independently.

The children and young people organize their everyday school life themselves. They can work independently in the various functional areas (including mathematics, language, world, creative and music room, workshop and laboratory) or take part in offers.

graduation

There is the possibility of completing a secondary or (extended) secondary school certificate.

Cooperation with the kindergarten

In close cooperation between kindergarten and school, kindergarten children from the age of 5 have the opportunity to attend school. This enables a smooth start to school. Likewise, the primary school children can return to their former kindergarten from time to time.

financing

The school is financed through parental contributions (school fees), financial aid from the state of Lower Saxony and voluntary work.
