Mauricio Wild

Mauricio Wild (* 1937 ; † March 30, 2020 ) was born as the son of Swiss parents in Ecuador , the spouse of Rebeca Wild , co-founder of the learning environment " Pesta " in Quito and initiator of the Ecosimia network .

First he worked as a plantation manager, then as an employee of an import-export company in the port city of Guayaquil. From 1965 to 1970 he studied social sciences in New York and Puerto Rico, then returned to Ecuador to lead an agricultural development project in the Andes.

As parents, the Wilds orientated themselves very early on to the ideas and experiences of Maria Montessori . The Wilds did not want their second son to have a conventional school experience. In 1977 they rented a house near Quito that was both a home and a kindergarten. In 1980 the Wilds opened a primary school and in 1986 a secondary school . In 1989 the Pesta was recognized as an experimental school for Ecuador. As early as 1981, the Wilds, together with parents, converted the school into a foundation, the Fundación Educativa Pestalozzi , which, however, received no state subsidies.

Since the beginning of 2000 , the economic situation of most people in Ecuador had worsened dramatically with the introduction of the US dollar as the national currency. During this crisis, Mauricio Wild decided to set up groups across the country that could trade with one another in a decentralized network. These groups spread mainly in rural areas of Ecuador. Today there are around 140 Ecosimia groups across the country .

Mauricio Wild was the initiator, developer, companion, reporter and much more for this movement, which secures life and livelihoods for many. His projects are supported across Europe, but there is no official Ecosimia website to protect himself and today's activists.
