Heckenbeck is a district of the Lower Saxony city of Bad Gandersheim in the Northeim district . With around 495 inhabitants, it is the third largest district of Bad Gandersheim.

The peculiarity of the small village is that, in complete contrast to the drastic population decline in the rural area, it has registered an enormous increase in the number of inhabitants for years, so that free living space is now scarce or even non-existent.

geography

The district is located about four kilometers northwest of Bad Gandersheim away from major thoroughfares in the valley on the course of the Mahmilch stream , framed by the wooded mountain ranges of the Helleberg (298 meters), the Steinbrink (227 meters) and the Wadenberg (249 meters). Connected to the district road 641, Heckenbeck is not far from the B64 , which connects Bad Gandersheim with Kreiensen . Two kilometers to the north is the Hilprechtshausen estate , which also belongs to Heckenbeck .

The former border between the Duchy of Braunschweig and the Kingdom of Hanover (and later Prussia ) runs about one kilometer north of the village , and today represents the border between the Northeim district and the Hildesheim district .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century.

On March 1, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Heckenbeck was incorporated into the city of Bad Gandersheim .

Furthermore, the volunteer fire brigade has 30 active comrades and about 120 supporting members. In 2017, the local fire brigade won the section competitions in the north / east fire section of the Northeim district as the best TSF group.

Culture and sights

The “twin beech” (one kilometer south of the village) is a natural monument .

Due to its enormous growth, Heckenbeck has a variety of traditional and other village activities.

The church was built in 1741 instead of the previous building and rebuilt in 1914 and 1994.

The "Horrido Heckenbeck" shooting club, founded in 1964, has around 120 members. By converting to electronic evaluation, the club has one of the most modern shooting ranges in the region. A special feature of the local rifle club is the strong youth department which is well known beyond the district.

The sports club "SV Heckenbeck", founded in 1948, is the largest club in the village with around 330 members.

In 2011, Heckenbeck won the competition Our village has a future at the district level and also won the district's special award for special initiatives against demographic change and for climate protection. In addition, the town of Heckenbeck took part in the competition “Our village drives electrically” and was able to position itself in second place in the Northeim district and thereby win e-charging stations.
