Freier ( Norwegian : Friaren ) is a waterfall in the Geirangerfjord in the Norwegian municipality of Stranda in the province of Møre og Romsdal .

It is located on the southeast side of the fjord across from the famous Seven Sisters waterfall . The waterfall is formed by the mountain stream Skageflasaestra , which plunges into the fjord over a height of 275 meters. Other data give the height as 440 meters. The largest vertical fall is 125 meters. On average, the case carries a volume of water of six cubic meters per second. The width of the fall is between 15 and 30 meters, widening towards its mouth. In the lower part it washes around rocks that show a bottle-like outline.

Other Norwegian names for the waterfall are Friarfossen , Geitfossen and Skageflafossen .

The name Freier is related to the waterfall of the Seven Sisters opposite. According to legend, each of the seven sisters was asked one by one by a suitor if they wanted to be his wife, which they refused. The suitor then surrendered to the drink. The waterfall therefore took the form of a bottle.
