The Freilichtbühne Lohne is an amateur theater stage on the edge of the city park of the city of Lohne in Lower Saxony .

The open-air stage has existed since 1951. There are around 900 seats available. The spectator area has been covered since 2007. Visitors enter the stage area through a gate into which the saying is carved: "First you belong to your god, first of all to him the homeland." This saying comes from the epic Dreizehnlinden by the East Westphalian poet Friedrich Wilhelm Weber , published in 1878 . A dramatized version of this epic entitled Elmar was performed on the Lohner stage in 1952 and 1967.

The amateur theater plays two plays per season, one for children and families and one for adults.

history

Poster for the performance on July 1, 1933, entry fee 20 pfennigs

As early as 1931, theater plays by amateur actors took place in front of Hopen Castle in Lohne. These were mainly pieces of religious content. This tradition was interrupted by World War II.

After the war, an open-air stage was built in a wooded area near the source of the Hopener Mühlenbach, which began playing in 1951. A players' home was made available to the amateur play group in 1961. In the 2007 season, the publicly funded roof was inaugurated.

In the early years, following on from the pre-war tradition, religious plays, but also Low German plays, operettas and theater for children and families were performed. "High literature" has only been seen three times since 1951, namely Goethe's Faust (1951), Schiller's Wilhelm Tell (1953) and Schinderhannes von Carl Zuckmayer (1976). The number of pieces played was just as changeable as the repertoire in the early years: in some years only one piece was performed, in other years two pieces were performed.

For some time now, one play for children and families and one for adults has been shown every year. There are regular performances on school mornings for school classes and other groups. Since 2004, plays that are more suitable for adult viewers have been played again (black humor, plot).

The piece Pfingstorgel by Johannes Lippl was broadcast on television (on N 3 ) in 1965 .
