History of origin
The school was founded in 1968 by the city of Lohne as part of the educational reform . Classes 5 and 7 of the "Gymnasium in Development" started in 1968 in a branch office. In 1975 the first class passed the Abitur. In 1971 a swimming and sports hall was built next to the school. The school has a large school area with a parking lot for teachers and students. An auditorium , renovated in 2015, has space for 550 visitors. A three-part gymnasium and a swimming pool as well as a sports field with the associated cinder track, which are integrated into the old tree population and the green spaces, border the school grounds. Play facilities for the lower grades are also available. A sculpture by the Magdeburg sculptor Wolfgang Roßdeutscher stands at the main entrance to the school.

Educational offer
In the upper level there are currently (2008) “courses at a higher level” in twelve subjects (German, English, politics / economics, Latin, art, history, Catholic religion, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and sport) as further examination subjects Spanish and Protestant religion are added; Basic courses can also be taken in the subjects of values / norms, pedagogy, music, computer science and performing games.
