Fresenhaus in Loppersum

The Fresenhaus is in the East Frisian Loppersum , a suburb of the Hinte community . It is named after the Frese family , who still own the nearby Hinta Castle . The Fresenhaus was built in 1859 according to plans by the architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves . It is surrounded by a 12,000 square meter late Romantic park , which was probably designed by a Dutch horticultural artist.

history

Memorial in memory of the visit of George V.

The Fresenhaus stands on the site of an old castle, possibly mentioned as early as 1381. What is certain, however, is that the area was owned by the knight Abeko I. Wiardsna von Loppersum (called Beninga ) in 1453 , who was building a new "High Castle" there on old foundations that year . Later owners of the facility were the families vom Bruick, von Diepenbrock, von Wersabe , von dem Appelle and von Westendorf. The latter had the old castle demolished except for parts of the cellar in 1776 and a new one built in the same place. The von Osten family then owned the walls, which eventually came into the possession of Major General Friedrich Christian Ernst von Frese (1802–1875). He had the existing castle demolished again in 1859 and replaced by a country house in the neo-Gothic style . In 1859 he had the existing park remodeled by a Dutch horticultural artist based on the English castle style and extended to the north. The castle also has an older mansion , which was renovated between 1536 and 1567. Friedrich Christian Ernst von Frese had it torn down and rebuilt as a Gulfhaus .

On his journey from his summer residence in Norderney to Emden, King George V stayed overnight in the Loppersum manor house on August 24, 1861, which he named Fresenhaus on this occasion . A memorial stone placed opposite the entrance commemorates this event.

During the time of National Socialism , the rulers at that time set up a country year camp in the building , which they dissolved again in 1941 because of the increasing air raids on Emden during the Second World War . The castle was restored between 1997 and 1999. In 2003 a company bought the castle. Since then, she has been renting out the premises used as apartments and offices.
