Semer-per-nesu Smr-pr-nsw friend of the royal family |
A friend of the royal family was an ancient Egyptian official title , which is mainly documented in the 1st dynasty . The exact meaning and function of the title are uncertain. Toby Wilkinson suspects that the expression pr-nsw ("royal house") primarily represented the institution that looked after the king and his family.
Wolfgang Helck thinks it is likely that "friend of the house" was not a very high-ranking title that was given to officials who had access to the palace but no direct access to the king. He also refers to the title "friend of the royal family". Two titleholders are known from the 1st dynasty: Itika and Sabef .
