Friends (world fairy tale book)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friends (later World Tale Book Friends ) is a book with stories from all over the world. It was published in 1968 for the Frankfurt Book Fair and brought together literary works and attempts by fifty-four famous personalities of the public life of the time from around twenty countries. The texts include their own experience reports as well as retelling of fables or fairy tales from the countries of origin of the writers.

“Friends” was given to UNICEF , the World Children's Fund received the net proceeds from the sale. The idea behind the tape was that "the mutual familiarity of children and young people from different nations of the world with their folk wealth is one of the best means to foster a spirit of greater understanding and goodwill among them," as the then Empress of Iran did Farah Pahlavi put it in an introduction to an issue.

The initiators of the anthology were Frauke and Erich Hofacker, a couple from Lübeck who both illustrated and published the volume. Licensed editions and reissues, some under different names, followed and show the success of the book.

Personalities from various fields such as Agatha Christie , Laurence Olivier , Lorrie McLaughlin , B. Traven , Robert Stolz , Birgit Nilsson , Mary Hemingway , Yehudi Menuhin , Thornton Wilder , John F. Hayes , Suk-Ioong Yoon , Hubert von Meyerinck , Viktor de Kowa , Gloria Swanson , Robert Stolz and Wernher von Braun wrote their little, often fairytale-like stories, exclusively for the band.

In Germany, a record was also released for the book, on which German-speaking authors spoke their texts themselves, the rest was read by Will Quadflieg and Johanna von Koczian .
