Frey & Kissel was affiliated with the Swiss Handelskontor Markant AG until the end of March 2011 . On April 1, 2011, after the dissolution of the Markant sub-group BBB & R, the trading company switched to Edeka Südwest , after the planned cooperation with other Markant companies was unsuccessful due to the lack of their own logistics.

In 2017, the group of companies had a sales volume of 170.7 million euros and over 1,000 employees.

history

The group of companies was founded in 1926 as August Frey GmbH in Landau in the Palatinate. The business purpose at that time was tobacco manufacture, the wholesale of tobacco products, raw tobacco as well as food and luxury goods of all kinds. Gradually, the food wholesaling became the main business purpose, which was gradually supplemented by own shops.

Run by Dieter Kissel in the third generation as a family business, it was transferred to the Dieter Kissel Foundation after his death on November 22, 2011, which acts as the sole shareholder.
