The high court in the Birkachwald - an image of life and culture from the Upper Styrian Murtale, based on true old events, Graz 1929, by Jacob Simbürger (pseudonym: Fridolin vom Freithall) 2nd edition: The Bruckenbauer lives in the back corner of the valley and is reckless, shy of work Chaste. His two sons are spoiled by him, contrary to the wishes of the pious mother, and soon show bad qualities like their father. After instigating a fight at a local festival, one of the brothers - Lex - is drafted into the military as a punishment. Years later, Lex comes near his hometown, deserted and murders the puppet farmer, whom he blames for his arrest and extradition to the military. Then Lex lives as a poacher and beggar on the run from the authorities, while his mother and now converted father pray fervently for him. The prayers seem to have an effect, because his conscience drives him to the Passion Play in Oberzeiring , where he betrays himself by sobbing loudly at the climax of the game and is arrested. He confesses and regrets his actions. Having already arrived at the gallows, he is pardoned by a resolution of Empress Maria Theresa. The petition for clemency was just submitted by the murdered Kasperbauer's daughter, who had entered a monastery after her father's murder. According to this book, he worked a lot with the Styrian literary group, this is in the foreword, which was written by Johann Andritsch .

Fridolin von Freythall was ordained a priest in 1856 and worked as a chaplain in Oberzeiring and in many other places before he retired as pastor and dean in Schöder.

The Armensünderkapelle and Galgen buildings are located at the rest area on the road between Katzling and Unterzeiring .

The high court in the Birkachwald near Unterzeiring ( Oberkurzheim ), with the gallows and the poor sinners chapel, is mentioned in a document in 1574. This indicates that the Liechtensteiners appointed the district judge for the high court.
