Execution of Mayor Wittenborg (1363) in Heinrich Rehbein's chronicle (around 1620)

The (first) peace of Vordingborg was concluded on November 22, 1365 at Vordingborg Castle between King Waldemar IV of Denmark and the cities of the Wendish quarter of the Hanseatic League under the leadership of Lübeck , at least to negotiate an unfavorable situation for the Hanseatic cities in the First Waldemark War to turn into partial success and avoid total defeat.

The Hansen had lost a large part of their fleet in the Öresund , which is why the mayor of Lübeck Johann Wittenborg was tried after his return to Lübeck. The unfavorable outcome of this war and the associated strengthening of Denmark's position of power led, against the background of a simultaneous power vacuum in Norway and Sweden , to the formation of the Cologne Confederation and the next war of the Hanseatic cities against Denmark.
