Friedenskirche

prehistory

A Protestant congregation was not founded in the Catholic Harheim until 1962. She acquired a plot of land on the edge of a new development area on the corner of Am Eschbachtal / Am Wetterhahn and commissioned the architect Karl Wimmenauer with the planning. In the certificate for the laying of the foundation stone, the name of the church says: "Shaken by two world wars, we live in a deep longing for peace."

description

The Friedenskirche rises on a square floor plan as a cube , the external appearance of which is characterized by light-colored concrete supports and red brick compartments. The height of the flat-roofed building blends in with the surrounding predominantly two-story residential development.

The bell tower, which is connected to the main building by a corridor, repeats the square motif. The entrance on the street corner leads via an outside staircase to the portal in the tower.

A stairwell in the connecting building opens up the rest of the church. A ribbon of glass divides the facade between the roof and the brick wall. The church interior is on the upper floor while there are community rooms on the ground floor.

The building materials are also visible inside the church. The brick walls dominate between the exposed concrete supports. A ribbon of stained glass windows is arranged under the coffered ceiling, which is also made of concrete. The abstractly designed windows come from Ursula Graeff-Hirsch . The color red increases towards the altar. Slates are laid as the floor. The seating is variable.

Furnishing

Altar, lectern and baptismal font were designed by the architect. They consist of slate elements that stand on silver-plated rods. In 1972 Erwin Heerich created a baptismal bowl with a lid and handle in the shape of a dove as well as two altar candlesticks and a metal cross. An oak cross on the altar wall was made in 1990 by G. Hieronymi.

In a niche next to the chimney in the southeast is Willi Peter's organ from 1973 with eight stops and a manual.

Bells

The five bells were made by the Rincker bell and art foundry .
