The Peace Church in Karlsruhe

The Friedenskirche was a Methodist church in the south-west of Karlsruhe .

history

It was built at the end of the 19th century by the architects Hermann Billing and Josef Mallebrein on behalf of the Methodist community on the property at Karlstraße 49b. The construction costs amounted to 65,000  marks . The sacred building survived the Second World War and was only demolished in the course of the rebuilding of the corner of Kriegsstrasse and Karlsstrasse and the widening of Karlsstrasse in 1968. This year the Methodist Episcopal Church united with the Evangelical Community to form the Evangelical Methodist Church. The Evangelical Community owned a church built in 1961 on the nearby plot of land at Hermann-Billing-Straße 11; it became the new home of the Methodists from the Peace Church.

nature

The prayer room was on the first floor and was 170 m 2 and 7.50 m high. On the ground floor there were apartments for the community council. The historicist architecture was inspired by the late Gothic . The facade was designed with sandstones from Sulzfeld and white plastered surfaces.
