Friederike Kretzen

Friederike Kretzen (born July 20, 1956 in Leverkusen ) is a German writer.

Life

After studying sociology , ethnology and political science at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen , Kretzen first worked as an assistant director at the Giessen City Theater , then a dramaturge at the Bavarian State Theater . She has lived in Basel and Venice since 1983 . She also works as a publicist for Swiss media, including the Neue Zürcher Zeitung .

The first three novels form the trilogy "Women without Men" and draw on the experience of the theater environment. The debut novel was also successful in a radio play version and as a theater production.

In 1998 Kretzen was awarded the German Critics' Prize. She received the Arno Schmidt grant for the years 2002/2003 for her novel Exercises for an Insurrection .

The name and character of the first-person narrator "Véronique" in Kretzen's novel Natascha, Véronique and Paul from 2012 come from Jean-Luc Godard's film La Chinoise from 1967, which gives the novel an aesthetic base.

She received one of the Swiss Literature Awards 2018 for the Indian Driver School .
