Friedhelm Vos (born January 21, 1939 - † August 12, 2016 ) was a German soccer player and later coach .

Player career

As a child, Vos joined Meidericher SV (MSV Duisburg since 1967) in 1949 and initially played for its youth teams before becoming the focus of the first team as a young adult. During the 1960/61 season he made his debut in the Oberliga West , the top division in the then still regionally limited football system. This was followed sporadically by further missions, but he could not prevail in the team. Accordingly, his first division career ended in 1962 after eleven games without a goal.

In the 1963/64 season, the Bundesliga was founded and as a result, a new second division was created with the Regionalliga, in which Vos started with TuS Duisburg 48/99 . For the first time he was on August 4, 1963 in a 3: 3 against Westfalia Herne in this league and occupied a regular place in the storm in the following time . When Duisburg 48/99 merged into Eintracht Duisburg in 1964 , he joined this new club. For this he then completed his second and last year in the regional league. In total, he had played 51 games with five of his own in this. The player's main job was for Thyssen .

Coaching career

In the 1985/86 season he was co-trainer at the side of Günter Preuss at MSV Duisburg and after his resignation in the first half of the season took over the interim coaching position for a game at the second division. With the engagement of Helmut Witte , he returned to his old post. In view of the great risk of relegation, Witte's tenure ended in March 1986 and Vos was promoted again to head coach. He could not prevent the threatened relegation, but he joined the club in the third division league, in which he worked again as an assistant coach. As an assistant to Detlef Pirsig , he was involved in winning the German amateur championship in 1987 and in returning to the second division in 1989. After returning to professional football, he left the MSV. Other coaching stations for him were FC Remscheid , where he assisted Detlef Pirsig, as in Duisburg, as well as SuS 09 Dinslaken and TV Voerde . Vos died in August 2016 at the age of 77 from complications from a serious illness.
