Helmut Witte (born July 15, 1941 ) is a former German soccer coach who worked for Wattenscheid 09 , Borussia Dortmund and MSV Duisburg , among others .

Career as a coach

In the late 1960s, Witte took up his first coaching position at Dortmund amateur club VfR Sölde . From 1970 he held the same position at SV Welver, which played under-class . In November 1975 he was hired by the second division Wattenscheid 09 in this function and finished eighth in the table with the team at the end of the 1975/76 season. Immediately afterwards he switched to Borussia Dortmund, where he initially worked in the youth and amateur sector. He later worked for the first team as an assistant coach and was promoted to head coach of the Bundesliga team after Karl-Heinz Feldkamp was fired on April 6, 1983. Within a short time, a conflict developed between him and team captain Manfred Burgsmüller , which he did not want to take into account. Just two weeks after taking office, the club announced that it would hire Uli Maslo as the new coach for the following season .

Under Maslo, Witte worked again in the role of assistant before he was again head coach at Borussia Dortmund for a short transition period after his dismissal in October 1983. After an interim position as an assistant coach at TuS Schloß Neuhaus , he took over the coaching responsibility at the relegation-threatened second division MSV Duisburg in September 1985. Because his sporting situation did not improve under his leadership, he was released in March 1986. As assistant coach of FC Schalke 04 , he held another position in professional football from 1987 to 1989, before turning back to amateur sport. In the early 1990s he coached Rot-Weiß Lüdenscheid and again at VfR Sölde, where his career began. In 1997 he took on an honorary position as a cook at ASC 09 Dortmund , which he carried out for many years.
