The Beechwood Cemetery ( English Beechwood Cemetery , French Cimetière de Beechwood ) in the Canadian capital Ottawa is considered the national cemetery of Canada . The facility has been classified as a National Historic Site since 2000 .
Location and description
The cemetery is located in the hilly terrain next to Richelieu Park in the south of the Rockcliffe district ( Rideau-Rockcliffe district ), north of Vanier . It is divided into different areas such as: B. the military cemetery with graves strictly arranged in rows and the Chinese cemetery.
history
The cemetery was laid out in 1873. Since 1944 it has been used, among other things, as the National Military Cemetery of the Armed Forces of Canada .
