Government of Canada
The government of Canada (also federal government, English Government of Canada , French Gouvernement du Canada ) consists of:
- the monarch Elizabeth II as Queen of Canada
- Represented by the Governor General of Canada
- the executive in the form of the Canadian Privy Council
- In practice, however, executive power only comes from the cabinet (currently the 29th cabinet )
- all federal agencies downstream from the cabinet are also included in the government
- the legislature, the Parliament of Canada with its two chambers ( House of Commons and Senate of Canada )
- the judiciary, the courts of Canada (with the Supreme Court of Canada as the highest authority)
- In a broader sense, the provinces and territories of Canada with their respective governments also belong to the government of Canada.
