Sophie Sumburane , pseudonym Lene Hoffmann , (* 1987 as Sophie Hoffmann in Potsdam ) is a German writer, editor and publisher . She is also active in the party Die Linke .

Life

Youth and education

Sophie Hoffmann was an active rower and passed the Abitur at the sports school Potsdam "Friedrich Ludwig Jahn" . In 2004 she began to publish articles for the first time as a youth editor for the Brandenburg local newspaper Märkische Allgemeine . She also founded the school newspaper Pausen Jahn. In 2006 she traveled to Mozambique as part of a school exchange .

From 2007 to 2013 she studied German and African Studies at the University of Leipzig and worked as a student assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology , first in the Department of Comparative and Developmental Psychology , then in the Department of Linguistics . As part of her studies, she also completed a year with Jan Kuhlbrodt and Kerstin Preiwuss at the German Literature Institute Leipzig (DLL). She completed her studies with a master's thesis on forensic linguistics .

Authorship

In October 2012 she made her debut at fhl Verlag in Leipzig with the first crime novel Disturbed Relationships. This was followed by the publication of short crime stories in various anthologies and, in March 2014, her second crime novel Dangerous Spring by Pendragon Verlag in Bielefeld . In October 2014 the book City Talks from Leipzig was published by Gmeiner-Verlag in Meßkirch , which Sumburane published together with the Leipzig writer Volly Tanner under the pseudonym "Lene Hoffmann". Her politically oriented crime novels are set in Africa and Leipzig.

In addition to her writing activities, Sumburane also writes reports, reviews and reports for the online feature section CULTurMag and has an author profile in the Leipzig poetenladen . In 2019 she was elected to the PEN Center Germany .

Political activity

On August 30, 2018, Sumburane had a short one-on-one interview on the Maybrit Illner political talk show on the subject of "Hunting in Chemnitz". In contrast to the previous way of dealing with party memberships of guests, their membership of the DIE LINKE party was not communicated to the viewer during the broadcast, but only mentioned in their short biography in the ZDF media library. In the speech, Sumburane made clear the dangers of right-wing ideas and chose clear words against the AfD and its normalization.
