The Roman Catholic Cemetery Chapel ( lux. : Kapell to Kierfecht ; double. : Chapelle du cimetière ) of Hostert (lux .: Hueschtert ) (Municipality of Niederanven ) in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a national monument classified .

history

The cemetery chapel probably dates back to the 14th century and was originally probably the chapel of an estate of the Counts of Luxembourg. It was later expanded and served as the choir of the parish church of Hostert, which was consecrated to St. John the Baptist . These extensive expansions took place in 1686 and 1728. In addition to the nave attached to the west, the church also had a crypt and a bell tower.

In 1859 a larger new parish church was consecrated in the village and the nave and tower of the old church were laid down in 1860. Only the choir was made into a cemetery chapel. The walled up choir arch to the nave can still be seen in the west wall. The chapel has been a national monument since 1976.
