The St. Nikolaus cemetery chapel on the Nikolaifriedhof in Schwäbisch Hall was built in 1842/43 and is still used today as a mourning hall. It is protected as a cultural monument.

history

The Nikolauskapelle, the predecessor of today's cemetery chapel, was mentioned for the first time in 1309 in a letter of indulgence from Eichstätter Bishop Philipp von Rathsamhausen . In 1509, a cemetery was laid out at the chapel , which probably belonged to the infirmary , which is why the St. Nicholas' Chapel was converted from an infirmary chapel to a cemetery chapel around 1566. In 1835 the Nikolauskapelle was demolished.

Today's cemetery chapel was built in 1842/43 together with the cemetery enclosure and the portal according to plans by the Hall saltworks and district builder Carl Stock.

description

The rectangular building in the arched style is closed at the top by a neo-Romanesque arched frieze, tracery adorns the large arched windows. On the flat hipped roof there is a roof turret crowned by a cross .
