The Romanesque cemetery chapel Marbach am Walde is located in the cemetery next to the Gothic parish church Marbach am Walde in the village of Marbach am Walde in the municipality of Zwettl-Lower Austria . The church, consecrated to St. Anne , is a listed building .

history

The Romanesque church building from the 12th century is the predecessor of the Gothic parish church from the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century. The chapel was renovated in 1932 and was given a war memorial on the western front. In 1935 the chapel was consecrated as a war memorial chapel. Today the chapel serves as a funeral hall.

architecture

The simple, undivided church building has a nave and a retracted rectangular choir under a shared gable roof. To the south of the nave and the choir there are Romanesque arched windows with funnel embrasures. The rectangular portal is in the middle of the west gable front. Larger-than-life warriors stand on pedestals to the left and right of the portal.

The nave has a barrel vault, the triumphal arch is pointed, the choir has a groin vault.

There is a crucifix by the sculptor Wilhelm Engelmayer from the 1950s at the cemetery.
