Marbach am Walde is a place in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria , and a place and cadastral municipality of the municipality of Zwettl-Lower Austria in the district of Zwettl .

geography

The village of Marbach am Walde is located 7.8 kilometers as the crow flies southwest of the city center of Zwettl on Königswiesener Straße  (B 124). According to the 2001 census, the village, to which Kleinmarbach to the northwest also belongs, had 272 inhabitants, the cadastral community has an area of ​​5.42 km².

The cadastral area borders in the northwest on the cadastral community Josefsdorf (community Groß Gerungs) , northeast on Merzenstein , in the east on Rottenbach and Großweißbach (community Großgöttfritz), southeast on Roiten (community Rappottenstein), in the south on Annatsberg and Oberrabenthan (community Rappottenstein) and to the west to Hörweix . The districts of Rottenbach, Merzenstein, Uttissenbach in the northeast, Annatsberg and Hörweix also belong to the Marbach am Walde counting district .

The place is connected to the Austrian intercity bus network by post buses .

history

  • Marbach am Walde was first mentioned in a document as Marbach in 1231 . This designation is originally a water body name with the meaning "creek whose course forms a border" or "creek that flows through a demarcated area".
  • The parish of Marbach already existed before 1338, was a vicariate in 1483 and again its own parish from the 16th century.
  • In 1970/71 Marbach am Walde and Friedersbach, Gradnitz, Großglobnitz, Jagenbach, Jahrings, Oberstrahlbach, Rieggers, Rosenau Dorf, Rosenau Castle, Unterrabenthan and Zwettl voluntarily united to form the newly formed township of Zwettl-Lower Austria.
