Oberstrahlbach is a place in Lower Austria and is in the same cadastral of the district Zwettl belonging municipality Zwettl Austria . According to the 2001 census, the cadastral community had 354 inhabitants on an area of ​​10.63 km².

The town of Oberstrahlbach is located north of Weitraer Straße L 71 , at a distance of around 4.5 km as the crow flies northwest of the city center of Zwettl. It is connected to the Austrian intercity bus network by the Postbus . The cadastral area borders in the northeast on Unterrabenthan , in the east on Gradnitz , in the southeast on Niederstrahlbach , in the south on Schickenhof , in the west on Negers , Gerlas and Rieggers and in the north on Kleinwolfgers (community Schweiggers) .

History and sights

Population development

Oberstrahlbach was first mentioned in 1139 as Scelebaes (1157: Stralbach ). The name means something like " stream whose water flows quickly". It is derived from the jet stream, which, coming from Oberstrahlbach, by low jet stream and the so-called humility ditch towards Zwettl flows town to there in the Zwettl River (also: Zwettl Bach ) einzumünden.

In an inheritance dispute with Zwettl Abbey , Euphemia von Kuenring renounced the Strahlbach estate in favor of the monastery. The settlement certificate from 1256 is in the monastery archive. The Roman Catholic parish Oberstrahlbach was founded in 1783 under Emperor Joseph II and comprises the localities of Oberstrahlbach, Niederstrahlbach and Unterrabenthan. Objects under monument protection in the local area are the Catholic parish church of the Holy Trinity , the rectory, the Johannes Nepomuk chapel, a wayside shrine of St. Veronika and the wayside shrine mercy seat (as of 2017).

Due to a major fire that killed six houses on March 16, 1877, the Oberstrahlbach volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1884 and has continued uninterrupted since then. Their area of ​​operation includes the cadastral communities of Ober- and Niederstrahlbach.

Oberstrahlbach has belonged to the municipality of Zwettl since the voluntary amalgamation of the municipalities in 1970. Before that it was an independent church.
