History and sights
Großglobnitz was first mentioned in a document around 1170/80 with the name Glocnici . The name is derived from the Slavic water name klokotnica (German: bubbling brook ).
The parish church of Großglobnitz was built in the 13th century. Since the church was consecrated to St. Pancras , who was usually the patron of castle chapels, it can be assumed that the present church emerged from the chapel of an earlier castle. The original Romanesque architectural style of the building can still be seen today. The Gothic Karner , a round building from the 14th century, has rich architectural adornments.
