The Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium in Preetz was founded on June 6th, 1947 as a “high school for boys and girls under construction” as a branch of the state high school in Kiel- Wellingdorf . On October 1, 1948, the grammar school became part of the newly created “People's High School Preetz”. After the secondary and secondary school branches were outsourced in the 1950s, the Volksoberschule became a three-tier school system. The final name was given in 1964.
