Friedrich Bock (librarian)

Friedrich Bock (born May 26, 1886 in Ellingen near Weißenburg in Bavaria , † October 2, 1964 in Erlangen ) was a German librarian .

Friedrich Bock attended the old grammar school in Nuremberg and then studied classical philology and archeology in Munich and Berlin. In 1908 he passed the state examination in Munich, where he received his doctorate in 1909. After internships at the Bavarian State Library and the University Library in Munich from 1908, he became curator at the University Library Erlangen in 1912 . In 1916 he moved to the Munich University Library . From 1921 until his retirement in 1951 he was director of the Nuremberg City Library . Under his leadership, this developed into one of the most important city libraries in Germany. In retirement he worked at the University Library in Erlangen, cataloging old holdings and training the next generation.
