Friedrich Brockhoff (born February 19, 1845 in Crange , † March 8, 1926 in Wanne ) was a German educator and musician .

life and career

Friedrich Brockhoff was the son of the innkeeper Johann Wilhelm Brockhoff and Anna Catharina Brockhoff (née Beckmann). On July 15, 1866, Friedrich Brockhoff took over the teaching post at the Cranger School, of which he was later rector. For the first few years, Brockhoff taught in the local rectory - at times up to 110 children at the same time. After 55 years of uninterrupted school service, he retired on March 31, 1921.

In addition to his teaching activities, he was responsible as a sexton for the local Evangelical community. There he played the organ for 58 years. He is thus one of the longest-serving organists in a parish in Germany. In 1866 he founded the men's choir "Eintracht Crange".

Brockhoff, whose great knowledge of local history is reflected in his memoirs, came from a long-established Cranger family: Already in the fireplace directory of 1664, in the “ Freiheit Crange” a “Berndt Brockhoff, Kotter, a fireplace, next to a standing kettle and brewery, but rarely hosts used "mentioned.

After the Second World War, former students of Brockhoff campaigned for a new street in Wanne-Eickel to be named after him. After the regional reform of January 1, 1975, Wanne-Eickel became a district of Herne. The Friedrich-Brockhoff-Straße is therefore today in Herne-Crange.
