Friedrich Christoph Osemund

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Christoph Osemund (born December 30, 1655 in Espelkamp , † 1733 in Paderborn ) was a German publicist , philologist , historian and alchemist .

Osemund was an early exponent of philological source criticism. Because of his consistent approach, he repeatedly came into conflict with contemporary scholars and waged numerous academic feuds. As standardization became increasingly prevalent in the 19th century, Osemund experienced a renaissance , not least because of his systematic defense against the accusation of inventio fontium ; August Boeckh praised him as the "father" of an exact philology.

Osemund was in third marriage with Katharina Hubertine Osemund, geb. Castles, married.
