Friedrich Filitz (born March 16, 1804 in Arnstadt , † December 8, 1876 in Bonn ) was a German musicologist and composer .

Life

Filitz received his doctorate in philosophy and lived in Berlin since 1833 , where he worked as a music critic, among other things . In 1841 he was shortlisted for censor of the Prussian state, although there were concerns that he might act with too great a severity. In 1847 he moved to Munich , where his valuable church music estate is now in the Bavarian State Library . With his collections of church music from the 16th and 17th centuries, he made many forgotten pieces of music accessible to the musical practice of his time.
