Friedrich Holste

Friedrich Holste (born April 30, 1908 in Tann (Rhön) , † May 22, 1942 near Semenowka ) was a German prehistorian .

Friedrich Holste first completed a two-year banking apprenticeship and then studied prehistory and early history at the universities of Vienna, Breslau and Marburg. In 1934 he received his doctorate in Marburg with Gero von Merhart with the thesis "The Bronze Age in North Main Hesse" and received the travel grant of the German Archaeological Institute in 1936/37 . He then worked in Mainz, Landshut and Munich. In 1939 he received his habilitation at the University of Munich and was appointed lecturer there in 1940. In the same year he took part in the western campaign. In 1942 he was appointed to the chair of prehistory at the University of Marburg as the successor to Gero von Mehrhart , but fell in Russia only seven days later.

His main research area was the Bronze Age .
