Valjala-Ariste is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural community Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community Valjala ) in the Saare district . Until the re-establishment of the rural community Saaremaa, the place was called "Ariste" and was renamed to differentiate itself from Ariste , as both are now in the same rural community.

The village has 17 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located immediately southeast of Valjala .

Personalities

Ariste is the birthplace of the Estonian poet and publicist Bernhard Viiding (1932-2001).
