Turja is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa . It belongs to the rural community Saaremaa (until 2017: rural community Valjala ) in the Saare district .

Population and location

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1782. Today it has 50 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011).

The village is located on the southeast coast of the island, 26 kilometers northeast of the island's capital Kuressaare . It houses a small fishing port.
